The February, 2020 B.A.S.H. meeting was held on Sunday the 8th at the home of James and Janneth Fowler.

El Presidente Mike Wojdyla called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and welcomed guest Paul Hicks. Treasurer Walt Crawford reported that the club’s finances are sound. We’re up to 34 paid members. Vice President of Social Events Mary Kay Schultz announced that the April social will be opening night for the Hooks on Thirsty Thursday, April 9th. Look for a future announcement with a link to purchase tickets. Sunday March 22nd is the date for our 2nd Annual Pro-Am brew at Lazy Beach Brewing. We will help Lazy Beach brew a brown ale, then take home up to 5 gallons of wort each. Homebrew will be allowed since the brewery will be closed.

In new business, Lou Needleman passed out samples of soap he made using beer. The judges said the lather showed good head retention but he needed more hops. The annual AHA Big Brew is Saturday, May 2nd at Nueces Brewing.

We enjoyed a Filipino feast of chicken, lumpia and pancit washed down with new homebrews from Jack Downey (porter/American blonde ale), host James (Pilsner Urquell/Traquair House Ale clones), Aggie Bill Hughen (hefeweizen), Martha and Adriana Knight (porter) and Mark Quade (altbier). Interesting commercial beers were shared by John Daniels (Dog’gone Hefeweizen), John Fulton (Cigar City Jai Alai IPA), Paul Holder (Community Berliner Berry/Lagunitas Cherry Jane Sour Ale/Marble Double White Triple Berry) and Mark (Saint Arnold Guten Tag Bavarian Style Lager).

As the evening wore on, the usual strange comments were overheard:

Paul Holder – “The last time I saponified, I got in trouble!” Mark – “It’s not legal in Texas”

Lou – “You all seem to be in really good health!” Mark – “Except for our livers!”

Unknown – “Your mouth is a sewer!” Alrighty then …
