Walt and Judy Crawford hosted the February 2024 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 18th at their home in Corpus Christi.
President Jack Heim called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and welcomed new members Will and Diedra Amaya. Walt Crawford presented the Treasurer’s report. Will explained they are hoping for a mid-late April opening for their Bay Area Brewing in Rockport. Mary Kay Schultz is trying to set up a social in March or April at Lazy Beach downtown.
In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our tally of brewing volume for December, 2023 was as follows: Vic Aguilar – 6 gallons, Jason Fransham – 5 gallons, Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Joe Wyatt – 3 gallons mead. YTD totals for 2023: Chris Ackman – 25 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 50 gallons, Roger Barnaby – 5 gallons, Big Brew – 15 gallons, Dave & Kathy Clark – 20 gallons, Walt Crawford – 5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 68 gallons, John Fulton – 15 gallons, Iron Mash – 15 gallons, Nick Jones – 5 gallons, Sabrina Krueger – 18.5 gallons, Wild Bill Lehfeld – 27.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 104 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 11 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 55 gallons, Jon Watson – 10 gallons, Joe Wyatt – 3 gallons mead. Total for 2023 = 452 gallons beer and mead (489 gallons beer, wine and mead in 2022).
The competition this month was open to any style. Entries of the featured style (Leichtbier/Kölsch, BJCP 5A-B) scoring 3rd place or higher receive double Homebrewer of the Year points. With three competitors, 1st place earns 3 HBOY points (doubled for Leichtbier/Kölsch), 2nd place earns 2 HBOY points (doubled for Leichtbier/Kölsch) 3rd place earns 1 HBOY point (doubled for Leichtbier/Kölsch) and 4th place and beyond earn 0 points. Results are as follows:

2nd Jason – Kölsch (BJCP 5B) 38.3/50 -- 4 HBOY points

As we dined on King Ranch chicken, we enjoyed the competition beers, old homebrews and interesting commercial beers from Jason (New Holland Dragon’s Milk Stout), Doug (Martin House The Way Home), Rusty Keyes (Saint Arnold Tarnation) and Jay (Drekker Chonk Sundae Sour/Turning Point Bombastic Side Eye Hazy Triple IPA/Kunstler Cashmere Hefeweizen).
