Lou Needleman hosted the March 2024 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 10th at a home he owns in Corpus Christi.
Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order, thanked our host and welcomed new members David Newstead and Sonia Najera, as well as John Daniels’ son Patrick who was visiting from Seattle. Walt Crawford presented the Treasurer’s report. Will Amaya announced that his Bay Area Brewing in Rockport will open on Saturday, April 13th . Competition director Chris Ackman passed around a proposed competition schedule extension to begin in August. We will vote on this during the April meeting. Dave Clark reported that the portable B.A.S.H. bar is now in storage at his home. Tom Ormrod invited members to experience the solar eclipse on Monday, April 9th at his place in the Hill Country (stay tuned for additional details).
In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our tally of brewing volume for February 2023 was as follows: Chris Ackman – 2 gallons, Vic – 10 gallons YTD, Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod -- 10 gallons YTD. YTD totals for 2024: Chris Ackman – 2 gallons, Vic – 10 gallons, Will -- 15 gallons, Jason Fransham – 5 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 5 gallons. Total for 2024 = 52 gallons (452 gallons beer and mead in 2023).
There was no competition this month.
As we feasted on Lou’s Indian banquet, we enjoyed new homebrews from Vic (low gravity lager), Will (stout) and Joe Wyatt (metheglin with habañero). Interesting commercial beers included Stella Liberte (Dave Clark), The Brewing Project Get Me The Manager (Doug Funk), Tap Root F-Bomb (Andy Vaughn), Stone Delicious IPA, Other Half Spinach DDH DIPA, New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA/Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA, Family Business Cosmic Cowboy IPA and Karbach Free & Easy IPA.
