Dave and Kathy Clark hosted the June, 2023 B.A.S.H. meeting AND POOL PARTY on Sunday the 11th at their home in Corpus Christi.
President Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order and thanked our hosts. Our booth at the Corpus Christi Beer Festival on the 3rd was a rousing success. Several visitors signed up for our mailing list. We approved a motion to use the collected donations to purchase baseball caps for members. Mary Kay Schultz volunteered to research suppliers/cost/minimum order size. In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions.
Our tally of brewing volume for May, 2023 was as follows: Chris Ackman – 5 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 14 gallons, Big Brew – 15 gallons, Jason Fransham – 1 gallon, Sabrina Krueger – 18.5 gallons (April/May), Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 25 gallons. YTD totals for 2023: Chris Ackman – 15 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 44 gallons, Roger Barnaby – 5 gallons, Big Brew – 15 gallons, Dave & Kathy Clark – 5 gallons, Walt Crawford – 5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 34.25 gallons, Nick Jones – 5 gallons, Sabrina Krueger – 18.5, Wild Bill Lehfeld– 12.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 57.5 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 6 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 35 gallons. Total YTD = 257.75 gallons beer.
We nominated and elected club officers for fiscal year 2024:
Treasurer -- Walt Crawford
Secretary Wild Bill Lehfeld
Competition Director – Chris Ackman
Social Events Director – Mary Kay Schultz
Social Media Director – Elizabeth Ackman
In something of a coup, the absent Walt was elected as provisional president. If he accepts the job, he will join the other officers in their new terms beginning with the July meeting. If not, we’ll come up with a plan B.
The competition this month was open to any style. Scoring beers of the declared style (Helles Bock, BJCP 4C) received double Homebrewer of the Year points. With two competitors, the winning beer receives two Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for Helles Bock), 2nd place receives one HBOY point (doubled for Helles Bock), third place and beyond receive no points. Four beers were entered. Judges’ results were as follows:
Jason – Foreign Extra Stout (BJCP 16D) ??/50 – 2 HBOY points
Jason – Witbier (BJCP 24A) ??/50 – 1 HBOY point
Wild Bill – Blonde Biere de Garde (BJCP 24C) ??/50 – 0 HBOY points
Wild Bill – Helles Bock (BJCP 4C) ??/50 – 0 HBOY points
After 6 of 6 competitions in the 2023 competition year, cumulative results are as follows:
Wild Bill Lehfeld – 25 HBOY points
Jason Fransham – 16 HBOY points
Chris Ackman – 4 HBOY points
John Fulton – 3 HBOY points
Rusty Keyes – 3 HBOY points
Andy Vaughn – 2 HBOY points
Tom Ormrod – 1 HBOY point
Wild Bill is thus 2023 Homebrewer of the Year.
As we feasted on pork riblets, we enjoyed the competition beers, a new homebrew from Vic (Kölsch) and the usual commercial beers.
