The January, 2025 B.A.S.H. meeting was held on Sunday the 12th at Beach Ball Brewing in Flour Bluff, hosted by Vic “The Chili King” Aguilar. President Vic called the meeting to order and thanked Beach Ball proprietors Robert and Bobby.
Treasurer Walt Crawford gave another glowing report and brandished a lottery ticket he claims will make us all rich! In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our brewing total for December was as follows: Jason Fransham – 2 gallons, Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 43 gallons. YTD totals for 2024: Chris Ackman – 22 gallons, Vic – 45 gallons, Will Amaya -- 15 gallons, Big Brew – 14 gallons, Walt Crawford– 10 gallons, Jason – 31.25 gallons, John Fulton – 10.5 gallons, Iron Mash - 14 gallons, Nick Jones – 5 gallons, Mike Kneale/Paul Froeschner – 13 gallons, Wild Bill – 25 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 93 gallons, Jay/Doug/David – 25.5 gallons, Andy – 25 gallons, Joe Wyatt – 14 gallons. Total for 2024 = 362.25 gallons (452 gallons beer and mead in 2023).
The competition this month was for the beers from November’s Iron Mash XXI team event. Three teams competed – Hop Goblins (Chris/Jason/Tim Grace/Chris Prado), Slack Jaw (Jay/Doug/David/Will) and Team Whiskey (Vic/Cary Blocker/Mark Woerner/Jack Heim). Judges’ results were as follows:
Hop Goblins – American IPA (BJCP 21A) 36.7/50
Team Whiskey – Belgian Dark Strong Ale (BJCP 26D) 33.8/50
Slack Jaw – Belgian Dubbel (BJCP 26B) 32.7/50
Hop Goblins thus retain their crown as Iron Mash champions, keep the coveted Iron Mash Cup for another year and will be forever enshrined on the Iron Mash champions plaque at Lazy Beach Brewing. As we dined on Vic’s chili, we enjoyed the delicious Beach Ball beers and basked in their hospitality.
