November 2022 Meeting Minutes

Vic and Josie Aguilar hosted the November, 2022 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 13th at B&J’s Pizza on SPID in Corpus Christi. Our meeting followed a memorial to founding member Paul Holder, who passed away on October 28. Many club members were present, along with members of the Holder family, friends, Liquid Town co-workers and former NJROTC students. Many stories were exchanged and we enjoyed visiting with Paul’s wife Theresa and twin sons Brad and Matt. The family provided pizza for everyone. B&J’s provided a keg of hefeweizen (one of Paul’s favorite styles) and we concluded the memorial with a toast to Paul.

After the memorial, club president Vic called the meeting to order and thanked B&J’s for hosting us. Treasurer Walt reported that we now have 43 paid members, including returning member Sean Sutherland. Our bank balance remains strong.

Most of the remaining discussion centered around Iron Mash XIX, held at Lazy Beach Brewing on Saturday, November 5th. Three competing teams brewed one 5-gallon batch each. We will judge the results during the January meeting.

Secretary Wild Bill Lehfeld neglected to completely canvas members for their October brewing volumes. We will collect October and November brewing volumes during the December meeting.

The competition this month was open to any style, with Old Ale/Wee Heavy Ale (BJCP 17B-C) receiving double Homebrewer of the Year points. With four competitors, the winning beer receives three Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for Old Ale/Wee Heavy), 2nd place receives two HBOY points (doubled for Old Ale/Wee Heavy), third place receives one HBOY point (doubled for Old Ale/Wee Heavy) and 4th place and beyond receive no points. Six beers were entered. Judges’ results were as follows:
