Chris and Elizabeth Ackman hosted the April, 2025 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 13th at their home in Portland. President Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order, thanked our hosts and welcomed new members Jim and Debbie Easterday from Ingleside. Treasurer Walt Crawford presented his usual report with one exception – our lottery ticket actually won a few bucks! Not enough to open a monastery/brewpub/waterpark resort in Bhutan, but a few bucks! In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our brewing total for March was as follows: Chris Ackman – 5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 2.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 10 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 5 gallons. YTD totals for 2025: Chris –10 gallons, Jason – 6.5 gallons, Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Tom – 30 gallons, Jay Porterfield/Funks – 4.5 gallons, Andy – 5 gallons. Total for 2025 = 58.5 gallons (362.25 gallons beer and mead in 2024).

Ingredients have been ordered for the AHA’s official Big Brew 2025 recipe– Big Blimp! American Barleywine. We voted to use club funds to purchase 5 large B&J’s pizzas for attendees. In new business, we voted to buy a feather banner to identify meeting venues.

The competition this month was open to any style. Beers of the featured style (Strong British Ale, BJCP 17A-D) scoring first, second or third received doubled Homebrewer of the Year points. With four competitors, 1st place received 3 points (doubled for featured style), 2nd received 2 points (doubled for featured style), 3rd place received 1 point (doubled for featured style) and 4th place and beyond received

no points. Judges’ results were as follows:

1. Jay Porterfield/Funks -- American Barleywine (BJCP 22C) 39.4/50 – 3 HBOY points

2. Jason Fransham – Wee Heavy (BJCP 17C) 34.6/50 – 4 HBOY points

3. Chris Ackman -- American IPA (BJCP 21A) 34.4/50 – 1 HBOY point

4. Jason Fransham – British Strong Ale (BJCP 17A) 33.4/50 – 0 HBOY points

5. Wild Bill Lehfeld – British Strong Ale (BJCP 17A) 29.4/50 – 0 HBOY points

   
   

After 5 of 6 competitions in the 2025 fiscal year, cumulative results are as follows:

1. Jason Fransham – 29.5 HBOY points

2. Chris Ackman – 11 HBOY points

3. Wild Bill Lehfeld – 7 HBOY points

4. Funks/Porterfield – 3 HBOY points

   
   

As we feasted on stuffed pork loin and smoked mac & cheese, we enjoyed the competition beers and a new homebrew by Vic (tepache). Interesting commercial beers included those provided by Vic (Real Ale Bright Shadows Belgian Style Golden Ale), John Brett (Four Corners Chingon Super Series Hazy Pale Ale), Jason (Saloon Door Crank Dat A/C/Squatters Hop Rising DIPA), Rusty Keyes (Saint Arnold Banger IPA), Jay (Ommegang Three Philosophers Quadrupel Ale), and Unknown (Melvin Back In Da Haze Hazy IPA).
