Chris and Liz Ackman hosted the October, 2026 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 11th at their home in Portland. Jack Heim called the meeting to order and thanked our hosts. Kaiser Wilhelm was a no-show.

In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meetings, special events and competitions.

Brewing volumes for September are as follows: Chris – 2.5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 3 gallons, Wild Bill 2.5 gallons, total = 8 gallons. YTD totals for 2026: Chris Ackman – 25.5 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 34 gallons, Big Brew – 13 gallons, Walt Crawford – 5 gallons, Jason Fransham – 16 gallons, Jack Heim/Carroll Pate/Mike Wojdyla – 5 gallons, Wild Bill – 12.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 38 gallons, Jay/Funks – 27 gallons, Hershel Tritt – 9 gallons mead, Andy Vaughn – 5 gallons, total = 190 gallons beer and mead.

The competition this month was the High Gravity Challenge, open to any style but all entries had to be 10% ABV or greater. With two competitors, 1st place earned two Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for high gravity) and 2nd place earned one HBOY point (doubled for high gravity). Results from the scruffy ragamuffins masquerading as judges were as follows:

  1. Jason Fransham – Rye IPA (BJCP 21B) 38.8/50 – 4 HBOY points

  2. Chris Ackman – Imperial Stout (BJCP 20C) 37.2/50 -- 2 HBOY points

After 2 of 6 competitions in the 2027 fiscal year, cumulative results are as follows:

  1. Jason– 10 HBOY points

  2. Wild Bill –6 HBOY points

  3. Chris –4 HBOY points

  4. Jay/Funks/Mellard –0 HBOY points

As we relished the Ackmans’ homemade bratwursts and sauerkraut, we enjoyed the competition beers, reduced homebrew inventory and shared a wide variety of commercial beers, including Belching Beaver Tropical Terps Hazy IPA (Chris), Tailyard Kokanaiki/Saint Arnold Oktoberfest (Jason), Real Ale Hop Sprocket Hazy IPA (Rusty Keyes), Russian River Blind Pig IPA (Wild Bill), Ommegang All Hallows Treat Imperial Chocolate Peanut Butter Stout/Santa Fe Social Hour Hazy Wit/3 Nations Haze Wizard (Jeremy Lewis), Trillium Rabbit Blue DIPA (Mark Marshall), Cody Much Obliged Hazy IPA (Adrian Rodriguez), Dry Hop Van Hazen (Mary Kay Schultz).
