The August, 2025 B.A.S.H. meeting took place on Sunday the 10th at the home of Walt and Judy Crawford in King’s Crossing, hosted by Vic and Josie Aguilar. President Vic called the meeting to order and reviewed our recent Guadalupe Flood Relief fundraiser at Beach Ball Brewing. We raised approximately $500 -- $300 from beer sample donations and $200 from Chicken 5hit Bingo.
Treasurer Walt Crawford gave another glowing report from the shallow end of the pool. In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meetings, special events and competitions. Our brewing total for July was somewhat puny: Jason Fransham – 2.75 gallons, Wild Bill – 2.5 gallons, Joe Wyatt – 5 gallons. YTD totals for 2025: Chris Ackmamn – 20 gallons, Big Brew – 9 gallons, Jason – 14.5 gallons, Jack Heim/Carroll Pate – 5 gallons, Wild Bill – 10 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 45 gallons, Jay Porterfield/Funks – 9.5 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 5 gallons, Joe – 5 gallons mead. Total for 2025 = 123 gallons (362.25 gallons beer and mead in 2024).
The competition this month was open to any style. Beers of the featured style (Belgian Ale -- Witbier, Belgian Pale Ale, Biere de Garde, BJCP 24A-C) finishing in the top three received double Homebrewer of the Year points. With three competitors, 1st place received three HBOY points (doubled for Belgian Ales), 2nd place received two HBOY points (doubled for Belgian Ales), 3rd place received one HBOY point (doubled for Belgian Ales) and 4th place and beyond received no HBOY points. John Brett stepped up to run the competition. Judges’ results were as follows:
Chris Ackman – American Stout (BJCP 20B) 37/50 – 3 HBOY points
Chris Ackman – American IPA (BJCP 21A) 35.8/50 – 2 HBOY points
Wild Bill Lehfeld – Brune? Biere de Garde (BJCP 24C) 35.6/50 – 2 HBOY points
Jason Fransham – Pomegranate IPA (BJCP 29A) 35.4/50 – 0 HBOY points
Wild Bill Lehfeld – Blonde? Biere de Garde (BJCP 24C) 29/50 – 0 HBOY points
As we wolfed down Vic’s bratwurst and homemade sauerkraut, we drank the competition beers, reduced homebrew inventory and consumed several interesting commercial beers including Andy Vaughn’s Leffe Belgian Blonde/Smithwick’s Irish Red Ale and numerous Parish Brewing offerings from Mark Marshall. Tom Ormrod then conducted a rousing game of Chicken 5hit Bingo (won by Tim Grace), which raised some funds for the club treasury. AND NOBODY PEED IN THE POOL!
