Joe and Lynne Wyatt hosted the June 2025 B.A.S.H. meeting AND POOL PARTY on Sunday the 8th at their home in Beeville. President Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order and thanked our hosts.
All officers were reelected for the 2026 fiscal year which begins with the July meeting. In his secretary’s report, Wild Bill Lehfeld reviewed upcoming meeting hosts and competitions. Our brewing total for May was as follows: Chris Ackman – 5 gallons, Big Brew – 9 gallons, Jason Fransham – 2.5 gallons, Wild Bill Lehfeld – 2.5 gallons. YTD totals for 2025: Chris –20 gallons, Big Brew – 9 gallons, Jason Fransham – 9 gallons, Jack Heim/Carroll Pate – 5 gallons, Wild Bill – 7.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 45 gallons, Jay Porterfield/Funks – 4.5 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 5 gallons. Total for 2025 = 105 gallons (362.25 gallons beer and mead in 2024).
The competition this month was the Extract Challenge -- open to any style, but all beers had to contain at least 50% extract. With three competitors, 1st place received 3 points (doubled for extract), 2nd received 2 points (doubled for extract), 3rd place received 1 point (doubled for extract) and 4th place and beyond received no points. Judges’ results were as follows:
Jason Fransham – Orange Chocolate Stout (BJCP 20B) 45.33/50 – 6 HBOY points
Jason Fransham – Weissbier (BJCP 10A) 42/50 – 4 HBOY points
Wild Bill Lehfeld – New Zealand Pilsner (BJCP X5) 39/50 – 2 HBOY points
Chris Ackman – American Amber Ale (BJCP 19A) 34.33/50 – 0 HBOY points
After 6 of 6 competitions in the 2025 fiscal year, cumulative results are as follows:
Jason Fransham – 39.5 HBOY points
Chris Ackman – 11 HBOY points
Wild Bill Lehfeld – 9 HBOY points
Funks/Porterfield – 3 HBOY points
Jason Fransham is thus Homebrewer of the Year.
As we feasted on Cajun boil, we drank the competition beers and reduced existing homebrew inventory. Interesting commercial beers included those provided by Chris (BASL IPA/Öldur Ingólfur Mead), Jason (Equal Parts Cali Green West Coast IPA/Real Ale Wrist Rocket Imperial Blonde/Latitude Blood Orange IPA), Jack Heim (Bubba Brews Onyx Moon Dopplebock) and Mark Marshall (Free Roam Quick Clouds Hazy IPA/Meanwhile Brewing Pilsner.
Most of us took the plunge and enjoyed the cool pool waters. Note: the drive to Beeville was an easy one hour from Corpus Christi.
