August 2022 Meeting Minutes

We began the August, 2022 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 14th an hour later than planned and without any pool action, but seven inches of rain from a tropical depression did not dampen our spirits. The meeting, hosted by Dave and Kathy Clark, was a success!

El Presidente Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order and thanked our hosts. Treasurer Walt reported that we have 38 paid members so far this fiscal year. It was suggested that attendees for the upcoming bingo social arrive at 5 -5:30 p.m. to save tables.

Our tally of brewing volume for January through July is as follows: Club – 10 gallons (Big Brew), Chris Ackman – 10 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 5 gallons, Roger Barnaby – 25 gallons, James Fowler – 40 gallons, Jason Fransham – 23 gallons, John Fulton – 15 gallons, Paul Holder – 55 gallons, Rusty Keyes – 8 gallons, Wild Bill Lehfeld– 17.5 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 45 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 2 gallons, Adan Suarez – 40 gallons, Mike Terrenzi – 20 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 17.5 gallons. Total YTD = 333 gallons.

The competition this month was for any beer with at least 50% extract, open to any style. With three competitors, the winning beer receives three Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for extract), 2nd place receives two HBOY points (doubled for extract), third place receives one HBOY point (doubled for extract) and 4th place and beyond receive no points. Five beers were entered. Judges’ results were as follows:

  1. Wild Bill Lehfeld – Double IPA (BJCP 22A) 38/50 – 6 HBOY points

  2. Chris Ackman – Oatmeal Stout (BJCP 16B) 36/50 – 4 HBOY points

  3. Wild Bill Lehfeld – Dunkles Weissbier (BJCP 10B) 34/50 – 2 HBOY points

  4. Chris Ackman – Bourbon Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout (BJCP 16B) 31/50 – 0 HBOY points

  5. Jason Fransham –Oaked American IPA (BJCP 21A) 28/50 – 0 HBOY points

Wild Bill’s Double IPA thus advances to the upcoming Best Of Show round.

As we enjoyed boneless pork chops, we drank the last of May’s Big Brews along with new homebrews from Paul Holder (weissbier/altbier) and Tom Ormrod (honey brown ale/saison). Commercial brews included Yuengling Oktoberfest.
