June 2022 Meeting Minutes

The June, 2022 B.A.S.H. meeting AND POOL PARTY on Sunday the 12th was hosted by Jacob Dunson and Cindy Crye at their resort compound in Flour Bluff.

Jack Heim called the meeting to order and presided over the election of the slate of officers nominated during the May meeting : President -- Victor Aguilar, Vice President of Competitions -- Mark Woerner, Vice President of Social Media -- Liz Ackman, Vice President of Social Activities -- Mary Kay Schultz, Treasurer -- Walt Crawford, Secretary -- Wild Bill Lehfeld. The officers’ terms begin with the July meeting. Victor then presided over the rest of the meeting. We approved the competition schedule extension for 8/24 through 6/25. Work on the new club logo continues. We voted to allow future meeting hosts to pick the meeting start time.

Our survey of brewing volume for January through May is as follows: Club – 10 gallons (Big Brew), Wild Bill – 12.5 gallons, Paul Holder – 40 gallons, Adan Suarez – 40 gallons, Chris Ackman – 5 gallons.

The competition this month was open to any style. Double Homebrewer of the Year points were awarded to beers of the featured style (Czech pale lager/premium pale lager, BJCP 3A-3B). With three competitors, the winning beer receives three Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for featured style), 2nd place receives two HBOY points (doubled for featured style), third place receives one HBOY point (doubled for featured style) and 4th place and beyond receive no points. Four beers were entered. Judges’ results were as follows:

  1. Richard Ramos – American pale ale (BJCP 18B) ?/50 – 3 HBOY points

  2. Andy Vaughn – American blonde ale (BJCP 18A) ?/50 – 2 HBOY points

  3. Wild Bill Lehfeld – Czech pale lager (BJCP 3A) 33/50 – 2 HBOY points

  4. Wild Bill Lehfeld – Czech premium pale lager (BJCP 3B) 32/50 – 0 HBOY points

Richard’s American pale ale thus advances to the upcoming Best of Show round.

After all six competitions in the 2022 competition season, cumulative HBOY results are as follows:

  1. Paul Holder – 27 HBOY points

  2. Wild Bill Lehfeld – 13 HBOY points

  3. John Fulton – 4 HBOY points

  5. Mike Terrenzi – 2 HBOY points

  6. Andy Vaughn – 2 HBOY points

  7. James Fowler – 0 HBOY points

  8. Victor Aguilar – 0 HBOY points

Paul Holder is therefore 2022 Homebrewer of the Year.
