Carroll and Judy Pate hosted the December, 2019 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 8th at their home in Calallen. Jim Hildreth conducted a demonstration brew starting at 2:30 p.m. We will sample his black IPA at the February meeting.

Vice President of Competitions Jack Heim called the meeting to order and thanked our hosts. Last month’s Best-Of-Show AHA-sanctioned competition was won by Wild Bill Lehfeld with his Trappist Single Ale. Paul Holder, one of our BJCP judges advanced in rank from Recognized to Certified with the judging point he received. In January we will vote on the 2021 competition schedule.

Tim Grace gave the treasurer’s report – we’re still in good shape and currently have 29 paid members. Secretary Wild Bill reported that we’re pretty well set for meeting hosts for the foreseeable future. Social Vice President Mary Kay Schultz reminded everyone of Saturday’s beach bonfire. Our January social will be an Ice Rays hockey game at 7:05 p.m. on the 24th, with a pre-game at Brewster Street at 6:00 p.m. Look for an upcoming e-mail with a link for buying tickets. Mary Kay and Paul will approach Nueces Brewing and B&J’s Pizza as possible venues for May’s Big Brew.

We then enjoyed Carroll and Judy’s bratwursts and sausages, washed down with interesting commercial beers from J.D. and Lara Busch (Ommegang Queen Of The Seven Kingdoms Sour Blonde), John Daniels (Dog Bone Caramel Stout), Tim (Freetail Hopothesis), Jack (Saint Arnold Art Car) and Mark Quade (Alamo Oktoberfest/Real Ale Wee Heavy Scotch Ale). Paul Holder shared a new hefeweizen homebrew.

One ridiculous comment was overheard …

Phil Sims – “We give’em free beer, but we set up a pay toilet!”
