Mark Woerner hosted the October, 2022 B.A.S.H. meeting on Sunday the 9th at his home in Corpus Christi. El Presidente Vic Aguilar called the meeting to order and thanked our host. Treasurer Walt reported that we have 38 paid members. Our bank has begun charging a monthly fee. Our balance remains strong.
Most of the remaining discussion centered around Iron Mash XIX. We need 2 -4 teams with 2-4 members each. Vic and Mark will form one team using Vic’s brew system. Wild Bill Lehfeld will assemble the boxes of mystery ingredients. The rules will remain the same as last year.
Our tally of brewing volume for January through September is as follows: Club – 10 gallons (Big Brew), Chris Ackman – 15 gallons, Vic Aguilar – 10 gallons, Roger Barnaby – 25 gallons, James Fowler – 40 gallons, Jason Fransham – 23 gallons, John Fulton – 15 gallons, Paul Holder – 55 gallons, Rusty Keyes – 10.5 gallons, Wild Bill Lehfeld– 25 gallons, Tom Ormrod – 45 gallons, Jay Porterfield – 2 gallons, Adan Suarez – 40 gallons, Mike Terrenzi – 20 gallons, Andy Vaughn – 17.5 gallons. Total YTD = 353 gallons.
The competition this month was open to any style, with Weissbier (BJCP 10A) receiving double Homebrewer of the Year points. With three competitors, the winning beer receives three Homebrewer of the Year points (doubled for Weissbier), 2nd place receives two HBOY points (doubled for Weissbier), third place receives one HBOY point (doubled for Weissbier) and 4th place and beyond receive no points. Four beers were entered. Judges’ results were as follows:

Wild Bill Lehfeld – 12 HBOY points
Chris Ackman – 4 HBOY points
Rusty Keyes – 3 HBOY points
Jason Fransham – 0 HBOY points

As we enjoyed wild game backstrap rollups, sausage and tamales, we drank the competition beers along with new homebrew from Vic (dopplebock). Interesting commercial beers included Chris Ackman’s Back Pew Tanuki IPA, Vic’s Früh Kölsch, John Daniels’ Four Peaks Kilt Lifter and Jack Heim’s Spindletop IPA.
Overheard: Chris – “Who didn’t get any?” Wild Bill – “What are we talking about?”
Mark – “I find a rock is a lot easier to take care of.”
